Yes, Orlando is a city.
In fact, it’s Florida’s largest inland city, but it’s not quite as large as many people assume.
You may be surprised to hear that the Disney World parks are not actually in Orlando. They are in fact located at Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, in the town of Kissimmee which lies around 20 miles southwest of Orlando. Despite this, Disney World is very easy reach from Orlando International Airport, if you head southwest from the airport along Interstate 4 (a 20-minute drive).
The exact size of Orlando ‘proper’ is just over 110 square miles. Much of this space is occupied by Downtown Orlando, also known as the ‘real’ Orlando, where you will find modern skyscrapers, sports centers, theaters, art galleries, shopping centers, and parks. Downtown Orlando boasts a great restaurant and nightlife scene too, and it hosts an array of festivals, parades and high-profile events.
Another area in Orlando ‘proper’ is International Drive, just a few miles southwest of Downtown. Stretching for more than 10 miles, this part of the city is home to the Orange County Convention Center, the Pointe Orlando entertainment complex, Seaworld, and Fun Spot America amusement park. The Orlando Eye Ferris wheel is also located here too, as well as the I-Drive 360 complex, Restaurant Row, bars, outlet malls and the major theme park resort Universal Studios.
The best way to discover everything these areas have to offer is to hire a luxury vacation rental in one of the many resorts near Disney World. These homes are located just a few miles from Disney World’s main gates, and they come complete with luxury amenities such as private swimming pools, hot tubs, game rooms, and home theatres.
We also offer a range of concierge services to complement your trip, from car hire and attraction tickets to private chefs, housekeepers, and babysitter.
