How long is the hurricane season in the Caribbean?
The official hurricane season is from 1 June through 30 November, but it has been known for hurricanes to strike in the western Caribbean as early as May. Hurricanes are widespread in the region by August and September, before peaking in the months of September and October. If you are drawn to the cheaper season rates of the Caribbean, it’s always best to ensure you have adequate travel insurance in place.
The Caribbean Islands not in the hurricane belt
If June – November is your preferred travel time, why not pick a beautiful Caribbean Island outside of harm’s way? Choosing to stay on a Caribbean Island outside of the hurricane belt will give you extra peace-of-mind when booking your dream vacation this summer/autumn. The southern Caribbean Islands or Curacao, Bonaire and Aruba in particular are safe bets, plus there are other low-risk Islands you may want to consider.
