Yes, it’s easy to get a taxi to and from your luxury villa in Koh Samui.
The taxis in Koh Samui are officially called ‘taxi meters’ and are easy to distinguish by their bright yellow and maroon colour. There is only one taxi company in Koh Samui and there aren’t any regulations for pricing as most taxi drivers turn their meters off, so we strongly recommend negotiating the price before you get in.
If you want to get a taxi to and from your villa, the villa staff will be happy to arrange this for you, or you can call the taxi yourself using the details provided in your villa information pack. You should expect to pay around 300 BHT ($9) for a one-way trip from the Choeng Mon area to Chaweng (5km).
If you’d prefer a cheaper mode of transport, Koh Samui boasts an excellent system of songthaews (pick-up trucks with bench seats for about 10 travelers). These are the most popular way of getting around in Koh Samui and there are dozens of songthaews circling the island on fixed routes all day. There are no fixed stops but you can flag a songathaew down almost anywhere, just look out for the destination which is printed in English on the front. Fares are about 20 THB for a short trip.
