With the endless miles of sea and sugar white sands, Koh Samui is a location every beach lover will adore. Discover the best place to set down your towel, kick back and relax with our top Koh Samui beaches guide.
Spanning from the northern to eastern side of the coast are the main beaches of Koh Samui. Chaweng, situated on the east side is the liveliest with an array of activities and entertainment, while the northern beaches (Bangrak, Bophut, Maenam etc) are best for a quieter day on the sands.
Chaweng Beach
Chaweng Beach is most popular with tourists for many reasons. It’s the longest beach in Koh Samui with plenty of shops, accommodation options, restaurants and bars to choose from. Split into three sections, each area offers its own unique charm. From the quieter region in the north to the livelier water sport and entertainment central area, to the south, where the main island’s events take place. Whether it’s relaxation, activities or events you’re looking for, Chaweng beach is fit for every holidaymaker.
Bangrak Beach
Known as the ‘Big Buddha Beach’, this stunning bay is named after the famous Buddha statue in Koh Samui, the island’s focal point. Located on the north east coast, nearby to Chaweng Beach and home to the waved soft sands, Bangrak provides complete serenity. Also, this is the place for water sports; with activities including kayaking, scuba diving and snorkeling available, take to the water at this beach. You can even stop off at one of the famous full moon parties, by boat excursion to Koh Pha Ngan from the Bangrak beach. Our concierge team can arrange these excursions for you.
Maenam Beach
During your Koh Samui holiday, we always recommend Maenam as a must see destination. It is celebrated as the most picturesque beach on the island, with the golden sands and unbelievable views of Koh Pha Ngan. In between this perfect blend of serenity, you can enjoy regular boat trips along the waters and fine dining at John’s Garden. Also, don’t miss out on the ‘Walking Street’ weekly event, a day with bustling markets selling local goods and dishes. Maenam beach is one of those locations every traveler will fall in love with again and again.
Bophut Beach
Located away from the busy crowds, Bohput Beach is a peaceful destination, also known as Fisherman’s village. Stretching across 2 miles of white sands, the beach’s center is home to traditional wooden Chinese style houses and its laid back atmosphere makes for a key location to explore. Friday nights is when the village really comes to life. Experience live music, local street vendors selling the best traditional food and a whole lot of community spirit. We’d recommend to buy that unique Thailand trinket at their markets.
Choeng Mon Beach
Nestled in Koh Samui’s northeast corner, Choeng Mon Beach is one of the quieter beaches with remote bays. The main sands is a water sport hub, offering a range of activities including Kayak trips over to Koh Fan Yai island. Whether you’d like to dine in or enjoy a cocktail, there’s plenty of restaurants and bars away from the main beach and other beaches located nearby that you’ll have enough to add to your itinerary. If you’d prefer to hire a car to get around, our concierge team can arrange this, alongside any other excursions or requests you may have.
